Urza’s Block

Urza’s Block is the grand daddy of them all, often considered the most powerful block ever printed based on the number of cards banned. Constructed was so broken that the WOTC CEO threatened to fire all of R&D if they ever did that again. Behind the scenes at WOTC Design concepted the block as enchantment-matters, while the brand team called it the Artifact Cycle to capitalize on the Urza backstory. It’s amazing how such a cluster can lead to some of the most expensive cards ever.
